Welcome to the First Thursday Group - May 2015.
If you are new here the simplest thing is to dip into some of the posts in the Dadamac Category and read our shared news and discussions. You may also like to go to the Dadamac Foundation website for more information about us and our mission - www.dadamac.org. I
If you want to contribute then you will need to log in. If you have any problems logging in please let someone know. We want you to get in, but sometimes glitches happen. We can only help people who tell us they have hit a problem.
Please introduce yourself briefly and give an update on your news. If you can refer back to previous First Thursday posts by other people please do make that connection.
This is the sixth session of a six month experiment. So what have we been doing, what have we learned, and what will we do next?
What have we been doing?
The brief answer to that is "We've been experimenting with Kabissa as the new online home for the Dadamac First Thursday Group." It was a big change because previously we met "in real time" for an hour, but here we're experimenting with a completely different approach. More details of the history of First Thursday are at First Thursday Meeting Updates I decided to invite only a few people for the experimental time. I chose people who had good connectivity and would be interested in the experiment for its own sake. When all is going smoothly I will invite more people from the original, wider First Thursday Group.
What have we learned
A Kabissa Forum approach to first Thursday is very different to anything we've tried before. Kabissa could become a wonderful new online home for the Dadamac Community. It can be a place for everyone to tell their unfolding stories, and so I'm not looking for any other home for the First Thursday Group. However it won't be quick or easy to move everyone into this space. The Kabissa Forum offers many wonderful features and so it takes a while to get to know them. Some people may need "Buddies" to help them find their way in the beginning. I certainly did - as Tobias knows because he has been my teacher/buddy.
What will we do next?
I'll try to get feedback from people who have been here during the first 6 months. My own thoughts are that:
- We'll continue the experiment for a second 6 month period.
- We'll welcome new contributors if they want to join us.
- Contributors will post updates as near as possible to the First Thursday of the month.
- Contributors will try to come back later to read the posts of other contributors, and possibly post comments.
- We'll try to find buddies to support new contributors.
- If we have more buddies than contributors then we'll go looking for more contributors.
- We'll look for information agents who will take on the tasks of managing the information from the First Thursday Group
- First Thursday Information agents will do some or all of the following: Read through the posts for the month, write a digest, recognise emerging topics, set up new topic threads, invite relevant people to contribute to the topic threads.
For now I'm simply sending this out to people who have previously connected with Dadamac here at Kabissa - @AndriusKulikauskas @biodesign @elfneh @Joyce_Elemson @johndada @Ken_Owino @Leon_Conrad @Mark_Roest @meredithkabisa @Nikki_Fishman @steveb @tobiaseigen @ted
Welcome to the Dadamac First Thursday Group.
Additional notes - Friday 15th May. I'm thinking about the best ways to build a critical mass of people and stories over here. Nikki and I know lots of stories that are developing behind the scenes, but it is hard work to get people to come over here to tell those stories (issues of connectivity, time, getting to know a new online space, shortage of ongoing stories here already, etc.
Nikki and I don't have time to tell the stories properly, but we will try to bring "tasters" of some of the stories over here,. If we are lucky people who are new to Dadamac may gradually discover the stories and see why we are passionate about finding ways to share them. If we can find other people who would share that passion then we can start to tell more of the stories and tell them as well as they deserve to be told.
