For some years now, Fantsuam Foundation has been part of a national coalition of NGOs involved in advocacy to promote community radio licensing for Nigeria. In November, 2014, while Fantsuam Foundation (FF) was working on a project to develop a Grazing Reserve to enhance peaceful coexistence between nomads and farmers, the participating communities developed their list of development priorities, which we named Charter of Demands. The communities were to use these as a negotiation document with any politician that comes to ask for their votes.
Fantsuam Foundation offered to help raise the profile of this document, the Charter of Demand. It was at this time that the affable manager of the local FM radio offered an hour to produce a weekly program. We named the program, Community Dialogue. The program has offered Fantsuam the opportunity to develop and produce a weekly program that highlights specific issue of concern in our host communities.
The first program brought together representatives of the Kaninkon and Fulani community who have developed a unique model of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. The DFID program, the Nigeria Reconciliation and Stability Grant project is supporting Fantsuam to promote this model in some communities where sectarian strife had occurred
