Following on from our session last night, here is a precis of some notes I made - they are MY notes, NOT minutes/action points! I am bound to have missed / put my own emphasis on things. Re-aligning these with what is really going on will produce additional clarity, so please do comment/correct as needed.
This is in line with the analogy of the friend helping packing for a move - I am ignorant of much detail, well-meaning, slightly too goal-directed (let's get this done and get to the pub sort of attitude), but completely willing to be corrected/guided and hopefully sensitive enough not to be a bull in a china shop.
But first some new stuff:
Postal address for Dadamac foundation: Please feel free to use: 206 Lyham Road, London SW2 5NR.
Here is a social network focused on women's empowerment worldwide - I heard about it on the world service last night. The founder specifically mentioned that people like the changemakers Dadamac works with can post there and that they have received help, advice and donations. It is not women only, just carefully moderated to make sure it is a safe space. https://www.worldpulse.com/en. I think that Dadamac should have a presence there.
http://akvo.org/ - a tool aimed at small-scale development projects, to allow them to document their project in the simplest possible way. I have not evaluated it (not competent to) - but I think it may be worth bringing to the attention of relevant changemakers. It may even be useful for Dadamac itself?
Current Dadamac Action priorities:
URGENT: Refine the dadamac mission statement on the basis of the current texts on dadamac.org. Aim to have this at three levels - a sentence, a paragraph, and a page. @dilgreen to start the ball rolling by making an attempt at a version for comments/refinements - use google docs. This is seen as an important resource to underpin all sorts of outreach work.
CURRENT: Complete set-up of virgin charitable fundraising. I think Nikki is working on this.
CURRENT: Working through Croydon Changemakers, start to recruit some volunteers - they will start with simple tasks, through which it will be possible to identify those who can be 'brought on'. We will all need to be vigilant to be strong enough to say 'no, thank you', to people whom we don't have real confidence in from the outset. I didn't say at the meeting, but I think two people ought to do interviews. I would like to come along to Croydon at least on one Tuesday, perhaps to listen-in to a Fantsuam session but also to get a feel for what is happening there - as well as hopefully being some help!
Short-medium term: Steering Group to have a session focused on fundraising approaches (looking for about £10k) - focus for next month's session at Westminster Hub? Another occasion?
Medium term - perhaps for late autumn - make contact with the most suitable local university with a strong overseas development department, with the aim of developing a relationship / getting some post-grad students involved.
Long term: Work on Pattern Language inspired ideas about ways to structure the information / insights / working practices / information presentation of Dadamac Foundation
... erm, that's it. No doubt there are all sorts of other things going on - I haven't written anything about ongoing work with changemakers ! But those things weren't discussed last night, and I would only make a fool of myself making stuff up - so I'll hope that you can add to this. Pamela, I think we discussed a project management tool called Trello a while ago. I'm using that heavily for the physiotherapy app development, and it's quite nice - lightweight and simple, but powerful too. We could have a look at that sometime.
I suspect we might need two sorts of meetings - current/upcoming projects ones, alternating with steering group issues ones.
