The Dadamac Changemakers Club is for people who want to support people who have projects in Africa, and for the people who have the projects. It is a starting point for people to connect with each other, to communicate, and perhaps (once people know each other well enough) to collaborate.
Roles in the club
There are two main roles within the Changemakers Club.
People who have "practical changemaking projects" on the ground (i.e.the "changemakers") - see Dadamac Changemakers Club - the Changemakers
People who support those projects, not in the usual way of giving money, but by acting as "information agents" for the changemakers and their projects - see Dadamac Changemakers Club - the Information Agents
(It is possible elsewhere to donate money to Dadamac Foundation for the Changemakers Club, and there are ways to donate to individual changemakers - bur the club itself is not about money - it's about information.)
How we connect
The Dadamac Changemakers Club will connect online here at Kabissa and also face-to-face in London. Some of our changemakers have projects "back with their communities in Africa" although they live in London. We hope there will be overlap between the online part of the Dadamac Changemakers Club and the face-to-face parts. (I'll be one link between them.)
What the information agents do
Information agents help changemakers to:
- Tell their stories.
- Share their knowledge.
- Connect with more supporters.
- Overcome various communication barriers (e.g. lack of time, poor Internet access, use of English).
- Benefit from peer-to-peer support and being part of the Dadamac "community of practice".
- Learn about new opportunities for funding or other support.
- Increase their influence - individually and as a group.
How it works
@Nikki_Fishman @johndada @Joyce_Elemson @elfneh and others are already demonstrating how this new Changemakers Club will work, and the needs that it will serve.
You can see evidence of what we have been doing, to lay foundations for the Changemakers Club, by visiting the Dadamac Foundation website and by dipping into some of the Dadamac threads here on Kabissa, but the best way to understand is simply to get involved, and help us to grow the work and make it more visible.
As these groups of changemakers and information agents grow I will help them to connect with each other within the Changemakers Club.
I'll also put up tasks that people need help with, and so on at Changemakers club. Tasks for Information Agents
We will learn a lot from each other as we build our communication skills and strategies. The vision for the club is that we will be learning from each other within the group. At the same time we will be giving greater visibility to the changemakers. We will build relationships and trust as we share information. Gradually the club will develop into a genuine online community. From the relationships in that community new collaborative projects will grow up.
What the changemakers do
To get an idea about Dadamac changemakers see the Dadamac Foundation website
As we get more information agents we will be able to tell the stories of more changemakers. (We have several waiting for us to introduce them to information agents, and after that we know where we will find more).
